Full Job Description

Our client, a leading provider devoted to worker well-being, requires an Assistant Accountant for their Newcastle location. Working in a small, dedicated team, the candidate will be responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll using Xero. You will work closely with the CEO and be practical and hands-on in your approach. Attention to detail and a can-do attitude are a must. If you have a passion for numbers, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Process and manage invoices, payments, and receipts in a timely manner.
  • Monitor outstanding payments
  • Follow up on overdue invoices.
  • Prepare and reconcile supplier and customer accounts.

Payroll:

  • Manage the payroll process, ensuring that managers approve timesheets, review of after hours
  • Employee reimbursements
  • Salary sacrifice (in line with NFP guidelines)
  • Onboarding of new employees into Xero
  • Awareness of Fair Work practices

EAP Contracts:

  • Ensure invoices are sent in a timely manner
  • Budgeting, Forecasting and Reporting
  • Assist with annual budgets and regular forecasts

General Ledger Management:

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.

Compliance:

  • BAS & IAS completion and submission by deadlines
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and internal policies.
  • ACNC reporting


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Certificate in bookkeeping (preferred not essential)
  • Xero training certification or proof of experience
  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred not essential)
  • Equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in an accounts /payroll
  • Proficiency with Xero, and MS Excel.
  • Understanding of NFP and Charitable Organisation reporting requirements

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Good understanding of financial regulations and accounting principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Current Police Check
