The Opportunity:


United Wambo Joint Venture (UWJV) is an Open Cut coal mine located 16 kilometres west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley, near the village of Warkworth in New South Wales. UWJV 50:50 joint venture between United Collieries (Glencore and MEU) and Wambo Coal (Peabody). They commenced operation in 2020 and are forecast to produce up to 10 million tonnes per annum of saleable thermal and semi-soft metallurgical coal until 2042.
In 2022, UWJV was awarded NSW Mining 'Operation of the Year'

Reporting to the Health, Safety & Training Manager, the Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementation of proactive measures to prevent accidents, incidents, and injuries within the workplace.
  • Conducting regular safety inspections and audits to identify any non-compliance issues, hazards, or unsafe practices. Implement corrective actions to address identified deficiencies.
  • Developing and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including fire, natural disasters, medical emergencies, and other critical incidents.
  • Leading thorough investigations into safety incidents and near misses to determine root causes. Analysis incident data to identify trends and recommend preventive measures.


About you:

  • Qualifications in Work Health & Safety, ideally Diploma and/or Degree in OHS
  • Mining industry experience will be highly regarded
  • Thorough understanding of NSW legislation relevant to Work Health & Safety
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and overseeing workplace safety management systems
  • Able to use analytical skills to reason through problems and translate creative ideas into workplace improvements
  • Demonstrated experience navigating complex issues and competing priorities
  • Ability to work in high pressure and competing priority/ambiguous environments for sustained periods
  • Manage & build positive relationships
  • Ability to lead workplace incident investigations
