Djarragun College is one of Australia's leading independent Indigenous colleges specialising in providing a holistic & culturally rich learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander students from Prep to Year 12.

Providing opportunities and pathways for those seeking entrance into university and other tertiary education as well as the largest vocational educational programs for those pursuing a pathway from school to work.

This position will see you collaborate with leaders and stakeholders to improve practices, identify risks, and ultimately ensuring the College's compliance with legal obligations related to risk and safety by managing RTW, documentation, advising stakeholders, and maintaining risk assessments and records.

Reporting directly to the Executive Principal this site-based role will see you working mainly from Djarragun College Gordonvale campus and Cape York Girl Academy campus, as well as overseeing other college sites nearby.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Reviewing, developing & leading the implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management system
  • Reviewing and updating policies and procedures, injury management procedures, employee wellbeing programs and hazard management improvement strategies
  • Conduct audits, risk assessments and incident investigations including areas to do with Psychosocial risk and hazards
  • Manage incident reporting & developing corrective actions & safe work procedures
  • Working collaboratively with both injured workers and WorkCover Queensland to implement RTW plans and case management
  • Stakeholder engagement and strategic influence to mitigate risks
  • Contractor management, client & visitor site safety education and training
  • Providing specialist advice, and creating tailored training packages not limited to the delivery of HSW policies and programs
  • Overseeing the excursions approvals process in line with college policies and procedures


This would suit a values driven & results orientated self-starter with knowledge of First Nations cultures and lifestyles, and the ability to communicate with sensitivity.


The ideal candidate will have.

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a similar environment & position
  • A Diploma in WHS or formal tertiary qualifications within Risk & Compliance
  • Workcover Accredited Return To Work Coordinator Certificate
  • Current Blue Card issued in QLD or a valid state-based working with children check that can be transferred to QLD
  • Working knowledge of WHS legislation & Codes of Practice
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills and the ability to adapt to new software packages
  • A current full drivers' licence
