Purpose of the EHS Manager role:

  • As the EHS Manager, your role will be to support and drive Valmont's commitment to excellence in Environment, Health, and Safety across multi-sites in Victoria & Tasmania (Campbellfield and Dandenong) each with around 100 employees and considered high-risk sites. The Tasmania site is smaller, with around 10 employees, and is considered a medium to low-risk site.
  • This role will enable you to develop, implement, and manage EHS programs and policies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Partnering with operational leaders and managers, you'll drive excellence in line with Valmont Global Standards and actively engage employees in safety practices.

Key Role responsibilities:

Training, Safety education and Leadership:

  • Coordinate Training and Awareness Programs: Develop and deliver training on EHS policies, procedures, and best practices to educate employees and promote proactive risk management.
  • Safety Leadership: Serve as a safety role model, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining health and safety standards.
  • Compliance and Improvement: Enhance EHS Global Standards, policies, procedures, and systems to align with organizational goals. Support and implement continuous improvements.
  • Compliance Management: Assist site management in meeting legislative obligations and maintaining compliance with Valmont EHS requirements.

Incident and Risk Management:

  • Conduct investigations and risk assessments for incidents, near-misses, and hazards, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage Site Critical Risk Program: Oversee and ensure compliance with risk management protocols.
  • Collaboration with Leadership and operations to enforce safety standards.
  • Engage the workforce and build key relationships with both operations, management, HR to integrate HSE initiatives into best practice business processes.

Auditing and Monitoring:

  • Regularly perform critical risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues and develop strategies for mitigation and improvement.
  • Assist in preparing for audits conducted by insurers, EHS consultants and regulators
  • Coordinate essential training for relevant operational sites
  • Maintain the Safety management System (Intelex) is up to date and functional

Experience, education and desirable soft skills:

  • A Degree or Diploma in OHS or EHS qualification is essential.
  • 5 years as an EHS professional, or at least 10 years in management within a similar industry.
  • Experience in manufacturing, warehousing, distribution or similar high-risk environments is highly desirable.
  • Ideally you are in a Senior Safety Advisor role but looking to step up into a "management role" with a wider remit but still want to be hands on and operate autonomously where you can influence strategy across multi-sites and geographical regions.
  • You will need to be an exceptional communicator, a people person who enjoys building relationships from the ground up to c-suite level.
  • You are highly organized, can manage your time effectively and prioritize tasks to deliver key business initiatives.
  • This role has no direct reports so it important that you enjoy working autonomously as you will partner will all levels of their business verticals; you have an enquiring mind, you're calm and level-headed and you exude resilience and confidence in the way you operate.
  • You are proficient with using the latest technology, apps and business process systems, not limited to MS Office, Excel.
